“Shake” is a new series dedicated to Milkshake IPA – an evolution of NEIPA, and an extension of 3 Ravens’ last two GABS Festival beers: Mango Lassi IPA (inspired by the yoghurt drink) and Moussey Juicy (modelled on chocolate mousse). In essence, a Milkshake IPA is brewed with lactose (milk sugar) in combination with other sweet or fruity flavours – essentially anything you might find in a milkshake, smoothie, ice cream or donut.
For the first “Salted Caramel Shake” they’ve combined lactose, salt and vanilla with a heavy dose of crystal malts (which have been caramelised) to create sweet toffee flavours. Rolled oats and triticale contribute to the full, creamy body, and judicious hopping (Summer, Ella and Enigma) add sweet grape and tropical fruit notes and a touch of bitterness to remind you that it’s still beer.
Based in Thornbury VIC, 3 Ravens has been knocking out craft beer since 2003. They’re dedicated to brewing unique beers of distinct character and quality.
DID YOU KNOW?
3 Ravens were one of the first to install a traditional, English-style hand pump into a Melbourne pub. They also turn their hands to all manner of limited releases, from past favourites such as the Ale Noir – their Dark smoke beer aged in a French oak barrel previously used for pinot noir – and the Ravenator Bock to popular repeats like the USB and more recent beasts such as the whisky barrel-aged Black Mass and Pedro Ximinez aged Druid.
